Sopwell Secrets Walk

Herts Walking Festival May 2016Throughout May 2016 the Hertfordshire Walking Festival will be taking place all over Hertfordshire, a celebration of fantastic walking opportunities across the county. Coordinated by CMS, the Walking Festival builds on the success of Hertfordshire Year of Walking.

There is something for everyone, from short walks for those who want a gentler stroll to hikes for those who want to stretch their legs. And it’s all FREE!

For more information, including a booklet listing all the walks, please visit the County website:

Sopwell Secrets

Here in Sopwell, you can take part in the "Sopwell Secrets" walk: a leafy stroll through Sopwell’s green spaces and hidden alleys.

The "Sopwell Secrets" walk will take place twice: first on Weds, 4th May - which was a big success with 30+ people in attendance! - and again on Sunday, 22nd May, starting at 2pm.

It should be a fairly easy walk with mixed terrain and some slopes, one flight of stairs and a visit to a play/nature area. It may not be suitable for very small children, though.

Meet: Benches overlooking Sopwell Nunnery Ruins on Cottonmill Lane, AL1 2BY
Distance: 3 miles
Organiser: Maggy Douglas
Booking: No booking required

Note: There is very limited parking in Cottonmill Lane. Alternatively, park in Homebase carpark for free in Griffiths Way and walk over the railway crossing, turn left into Cottonmill Lane and continue until you come to the ruins on your right.
